a story about "The Stolen Generations"......
A couple of days ago, I saw the movie "Australia" and I was so touched!
This is an epic love story, but the issue "The Stolen Generations" concered behind is much more significant. Hence, the movie "Australia" has something to do with Australia's aborigines' lives.
What is "The Stolen Generations?"
According to Wikipedia, it is a term used to describe those children of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent who were removed from their families by the Australian and State government agencies and church missions, under acts of their respective parliaments. The removals occurred in the period between approximately 1869 and 1969, although, in some places, children were still being taken in the 1970s.
And those children in the stolen generations were called "Creamy", mixed blood of black and white.
The stolen generations is a historical trauma! This sort of assimilation policy is a culture invasion.
The Australia's government officially abandned the assimilation policy for indigenous Australians in the northern Territory in 1973. The prime minister of Australia didn't offered a formal apology to the members of the stolen generations until 2008.
There is a line touched me so deeply.
King George said to Corny: "You can't keep Nullah here whole life. He must go through a severe test. If he doesn't go through it, he has no belonging! No story! No dreaming!"
Root, that is all that matters!
All in all, this is a great movie! Strongly Recommend!
